Aston Villa midfielder Stiliyan Petrov insists the squad are behind boss Alex McLeish amidst rumours of unrest.

Reports emerged claiming McLeish had a touchline row with Stephen Ireland, but Petrov claims the manager has the full support of the squad.

McLeish has also come in for criticism from sections of the Villa Park faithful but Bulgarian midfielder Petrov insists the Scot is the right man to lead Villa.

"Our manager will get it right. We believe in him and we will keep fighting," Petrov told the Guardian.

"Managers will always be under pressure when you don't get results even if you play well.

"Ours is doing well and he's strong and positive but unfortunately we can't get a result.

"He's a strong character, though. He'll never give up. He'll keep fighting and driving us forward. We are behind him. It's just that we can't get results at the moment."
