Mixed news on Newcastle injured

by JP Lonergan , 05 February 2012

Newcastle United are set to be without striker Leon Best for up to six weeks.

The Republic of Ireland international was stretchered off with a knee injury in the early stages of his side's 2-1 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.

The blow came after an unfortunate collision with Villa's Stephen Warnock, who was also inadvertently involved when Ryan Taylor was forced off just after he played a part in Demba Ba opening the scoring for the hosts. The ex-Wigan man, however, should be okay after the swelling on his leg goes down.

"Leon has got a medial ligament injury, which is usually a six-week lay-off," Newcastle boss Alan Pardew was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

"The good news for Ryan Taylor is that there is no break or fracture, so we think he's going to be okay."

New signing Papiss Demba Cisse fired in a stunning winner for the Magpies after Robbie Keabe had levelled things up for Villa before the break.
