Newcastle are hoping to get Fabricio Coloccini tied down to a new five-year contract to end speculation linking him with Liverpool.
The central defender is attracting strong interest from the Reds who could try and lure him away in the summer but Alan Pardew is hoping to secure the player to a new long-term deal.
The Magpies are ready to offer Coloccini a bumper pay rise and it is hoped a deal can be hammered soon with the player's agent due to fly in for talks this week.
Pardew failed to wrap up deals for James Tomkins and Adrian Mariappa during the transfer window but he could still pull off the signing of the season if he can get Coloccini to put pen-to-paper.
