Rovers holding firm over Formica

Blackburn are holding out for at least £3.5million for Mauro Formica with Greek side Olympiakos hoping to do a deal this month.

The Argentinian has failed to settle in England and is keen on a switch to Greece, according to reports.

Rovers will sell the playmaker for around £3.5million and may be prepared to let the 23-year-old join the Greek side initially on a loan basis before he secures a permanent transfer in the summer.

Rovers signed Formica for £3.5million 12 months ago and do not want to make a loss on a player who they believe has plenty of potential to go on and establish himself in one of Europe's top leagues.

Boss Steve Kean does not want to lose Formica, who came off the bench at Everton last weekend, but knows if he can bring in some funds he will then have more scope to add to his relegation-threatened squad.

Brazilian side Flamengo have also been linked with Formica but Olympiakos remain in the driving seat despite the fact the two parties remain some way off agreeing a deal.
