Shamrock Rovers will face Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League group stage, with Rubin Kazan and PAOK Salonika providing their other opponents.
Fulham, Stoke City and Birmingham City also learned who they will play in Friday’s draw in Monaco.
Reigning League of Ireland champions Rovers, the first Irish side to ever reach the group stages of the competition, overcame Partizan Belgrade in extra-time on Thursday to get this far, with Michael O’Neill’s side rewarded with two glamour games against Premier League stars Tottenham Hotspur in Group A.
Rubin Kazan are in the competition after being knocked out of the Champions League playoffs by Lyon, while PAOK of Greece will also provide a daunting away day for the Hoops. It has already been suggested that Rovers' home game against Harry Redknapp's Spurs will be switched from the club's Tallaght Stadlim to the much bigger Aviva Stadium.
Fulham, finalists in 2009, have been paired with three teams who were eliminated in the Champions League playoffs. Dutch side FC Twente are the top seeds in Group K, which also features Denmark’s Odense and Wisla Krakow of Poland.
FA Cup finalists Stoke, meanwhile, were drawn in Group E with Ukrainian European regulars Dynamo Kiev, while Besiktas of Turkey and Israel's Maccabi Tel-Aviv complete a difficult looking assignment for the Potters.
Carling Cup winners Birmingham, who of course went on to be relegated from the Premier League, have been drawn with last year’s runners-up Braga. Club Brugges of Belgium and Slovenia’s NK Maribor – the conquerors of Rangers – join the Blues and the Portuguese side in Group H.
Elsewhere, 2009 winners Atletico Madrid are in Group I with Udinese, Rennes and FC Sion – who Celtic still hope to replace as they feel the Swiss side knocked them out of the playoff round with a team containing a number of ineleigble players.
