Fitzgerald close to return

by Michelle Fortune , 20 February 2012

Luke Fitzgerald could make his return for Leinster in Saturday's RaboDirect Pro12 clash against Glasgow.

Fitzgerald has not played for Leinster since the St Stephen's Day win over Ulster because of a troublesome neck problem. His comeback has been delayed a number of times but he is due to return to full training this week after undergoing a ten-day conditioning programme.

The Ireland and Lions back could be named in the starting XV for the trip to Firhill on Saturday but a decision will not be made until closer to the weekend.

Leinster came through Friday's last-gasp win over Scarlets with a clean bill of health with Dominic Ryan given the all clear after his first appearance since October.

While coach Joe Schmidt could welcome back Fitzgerald for Saturday's clash he will be without a number of players due to international commitments.

In their absence Schmidt could call upon a number of Academy players, including Colm O'Shea, who made his senior bow in the recent win over Benetton Treviso.
