England are likely to be without Lee Mears for Saturday's RBS Six Nations match against Wales at Twickenham.
The Bath hooker is suffering with a bicep injury and is unlikely to have recovered in time to be included in Stuart Lancaster's side to face the World Cup semi-finalists.
Harlequins number two Chris Brooker has been called into the squad to train at Pennyhill Park.
"Lee Mears has got a bit of a bicep hematoma, as they have described it, at the moment," said Lancaster.
"He has gone for a scan today so we will wait and see what happens. He has had two bicep injuries before so we want to be careful.
"He is still at Bath. We have brought Chris Brooker in from Quins. He arrived this morning and will stay with us until tomorrow afternoon."
Gloucester winger Charlie Sharples has already been ruled out of the match.
Although he has yet to feature in this season's competition, Sharples was included as cover for Chris Ashton and David Strettle.
However, he will play no part at the weekend after picking up a dead leg.
