Seanie Johnston has taken the first step in his quest to represent Kildare by lodging his transfer request with the Cavan County Board.
In October Cavan manager Val Andrews informed Johnston that he was not part of his plans for the Breffni County, but the talented forward wants to continue his inter-county career and is hoping to secure a move to Kildare, where he is a resident.
The GAA's Central Appeal's Committee rejected a previous request from the 27-year-old but he refused to accept the decision and warned he would be prepared to take his fight to the Dispute Resolutions Authority.
While he was reluctant to leave Cavan Gaels, Johnston will have to move to a Kildare club in order to be eligible to play for the county side and he has lodged a formal transfer request to join St Kevin's.
The Cavan County Board will discuss his application at their first meeting of the year on Monday night but if no objection is lodged within ten days he will automatically become a St Kevin's player.
However, if Cavan do raise objections the Central Competition Controls Committee will be called upon and that might not be good news for Johnston after the body denied Johnny Murtagh's transfer from Armagh to Louth.
